ELECTRICITY PATRICIA Y ALBA
CONDUCTORS AND INSULATORS
insulators
a material that lets electric current flow through it.
wood, plastic, cardboard
conductors
electrons(negative charge)
cannot move spontaneously.
*neutrons(neutral charge
)*
CONDUCTORS
**Component that transport the electrical energy from the power source on the load device
Wire
POWER SOURCES
Component that supplies electrical energy to the rest of the circuit
component:
cell: supplies electrical energy to the rest of the circuit, have positive and negative terminal
batery: a grouped set of cells
LOAD DEVICES
Component that receives the electrical energy from the power source and converts it to other types of useful energy
Motor: converts electrical energy to kinetic energy
buzzer: converts electrical energy to sound energy
Lamp: converts electrical energy to light energy
Resistor: converts electrical energy to heat energy
CONTROL DEVICES
Device that regulates the circuit allowing or preventing the flow of electric current through the circuit
Push switch: open and close but only while the button is pushed
Two-way switch: have two positions, when we press them they change from one position to an other
One-way switch: open or close the circuit when thet are pressed
ELECTRIC CIRCUITS
OPEN AND CLOSE CIRCUIT
ON: when the electric current flows and reaches the lamp to light it.
OFF: when the elctric current does not flow
In an electric circuit, a short circuit occurs when the electric current is transported by the wires without passing through a load device
Types of circuits
Parallel circuit: in these circuit, the load devices are connected on differnet branches of the wire.
Series circuits: in these circuit, all the components are connected one after the other.
Series-parallel combination circuits: these circuits contain devices connected in series and in parallel.
OHM´S LAW
Main electric variables
Voltage: this is the difference in the charge between two points(posite and negative terminal)
RESISTANCE: this is the opposition to the flow of the electric current.
Current: is the intensity of the current or the amount of electrons flowing through a conductor over a certain time
Converting electrical energy
Heat: when electrons move through a conductor or load device.
Motion
. we can also convert electricity to motion using a motor.
Light: we can convert electricity to light through load devices.
Sound:
we can use to transmit sounds through microphones, and produce sound
effects.
Energy and the enviroment
Enviroment impact of energy production and transmission: electrical energy is generated industrially in power stations, which convert a form ofd energy(chmical, mechanical, thermal, light, etc)
Responsible use of electrical energy: when we save energy, we save money too but more importantly, we save natural resources and help to protect the enviroment
