Titration
-
method
3) using the burette, add the acid to the alkali a bit at a time - giving the flask a swirl, go slowly when you suspect a colour change is near
-
2) use a funnel to fill a burette with some acid `of known concentration - record initial volume of acid
5) record the final volume of acid in the burette and use it along with the initial reading to calculate the volume of acid needed to neutralise the alkali
1) using a pipette and pipette filler, add a set volume of alkali to a conical flask - add two or three drops of indicator too
indicators
in titration, you use a single indicator due to the sudden colour change seen at the end
these can be:
litmus (blue in alkali, red in acid)
phenolphthalein ( pink in alkali, colourless in acid)
methyl orange (yellow in alkali , red in acid)
