- - - - 1914: With the start of the First World War, nations were trying to up their game when it came to technology so they can beat their enemies. One such example of this is the first tank prototype, Little Willie, invented in Britain.
        
        1918: The first German tank was developed to compete with the British tank Little Willie. The Germans developed the A7V, a large tank with a minimum crew of 18. The A7V was only in service from the 21st of March to the 16th of October.
        
        1937: Due to the treaty of Versailles, the German army was prohibited from the production of tanks. But when Hitler rose to power in 1933, they started the production of tanks again, first in secret. In 1937, the Pz. III was mass produced and frequently used in Blitzkriegs.
        
        1960s: During the 1960s, environmental politics really came into action. It advocated against pollution and the destruction of land. The pollution side of things has been contributed to the internal combustion engine, for it puts out pollutants into the air.
        
        2003: In 2003, the company Tesla was formed. Tesla is an automobile manufacturer that specialises in electric vehicles to combat pollution that is made by internal combustion engines, Tesla has changed the environmental politics game with their electric cars.
- - - - 1886: The internal combustion engine aided in the development of the first car, the Benz Patent motor car. It was invented by Carl Benz and is considered the first true modern automobile. The Benz Patent Car made way for more innovation much later in history. It was a three wheeled automobile that relied on gas.
        
        1890’s: The first efficient diesel engine was invented by Rudolf Diesel, a German inventor. It was a compression ignition, internal combustion engine. The earlier designs of the diesel engine were big, operated at low speeds and were using a system that compressed air-assisted fuel injection systems.
        
        1894: The first ever kerosene internal combustion locomotive was invented in 1894 by the Priestmen Brothers. The kerosene locomotive used a 12 hp engine that spun at 300 rpm. It was not successful because of it’s low power output.
        
        1896: The first successful kerosene locomotive was the Lachesis, which was invented by Richard Hornsby LTD. The company built a series of locomotives to aid the British military between 1896 and 1903.
        
        1903: The “Wright Flyer” was invented and owned by the Wright Brothers. “This machine powered the first, heavier than air, self-propelled, maneuverable, piloted aircraft; the Wright 1903 Flyer, flown at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in December, 1903.” (Lopez, 2018.)
        
        1915: William Foster Co. of Lincoln was contracted to build a prototype machine that was based on some imported American tracks. After William Foster Co. failed, British designers picked up the tracks and found a pattern that works. The tracks were fitted onto a sort of vehicle that resembled a land boat, it was named the “Little Willie”.
        
        1997: In Japan, Toyota introduced the first commercially available vehicle that was classified as a HEV, hybrid electric vehicle. The Toyota Prius’ engine combined an internal combustion engine and an electric motor that gets its power from a battery.
- - - - 1945: When the war ended, the production of cars and automobiles had skyrocketed. Most of the growth had occurred outside of the United States, as they used to be 80% of the automotive production industry but dropped to 20%.
        
        1980: America was still the leading producer of automobiles until they had a recession that lasted 2 years, letting Japan grow their industry. They soon became the leading producer of automobiles alongside European countries.
        
        2003: The company Tesla is founded by Elon Musk. Tesla is an electric car manufacturer and after seeing how internal combustion engines have affected the environment, they decided to try to create a car that has 0 emissions.
        
        2008: Tesla releases their first car, the Tesla Roadster. It would sell for $109,000 USD and sell over 2450 units in 30 countries.
