Scenario: Dr. Chris Marks has served as director of student services at West University for eight months. One of her responsibilities is to oversee supplemental services to aid students (Black Students) in academic success. Toward the end of the fall semester, Dr. Marks sent out a survey to all freshman (Black) students to find out what academic challenges they had during their initial semester at the university. The four areas of greatest challenge for this group included time management, procrastination, lecture note taking, and reading textbooks effectively. Dr. Marks’s predecessor held the director position for 22 years and had created workshops to cover some of these topics, but most were poorly attended and included paper-based materials. One of Dr. Marks’s goals this year was to revise the existing workshops and create workshops to meet the four challenges, but she realizes that more information is needed to provide effective learning solutions for the freshmen.
The ABCD Model: The (A) audience are the African American College students. The instruction will lead to the students developing action plans for achievement, and then continually refer to and assess how their personal action plans will lead to their success. (B) The measurable interpretation would be the student’s personal action plans. (C) The equipment or tool that will be used will be a template that is designed to prompt students to competing the personal action plan. (D) The time period for performance will be a 30-day check-in (Kiliçkaya, 2016).
The learning domain for this goal is Affective domain. This domain operates in five key areas to explain how learners process feelings and attitudes: 1) Receiving, 2) Responding, 3) Valuing, 4) Organizing, and 5) Characterizing (Anees, 2017).
