Main points
Salmon Bias
Salmon Bias refers to the phenomenon that is recorded in U.S born Mexicans and Mexicans who immigrate to the U.S and how they tend to have better or worse health outcomes compared to one another due to various socioecnomic factors
"The "Salmon bias" hypothesis suggest that some health advantages in Hispanic populations arises from selective return migration (When those who are considerably less healthy return to their country of origin)"
-
Reasons for migration
Lack of access to care or barriers that prevent people from accessing care is the primary reason for migration
Author's purpose
Agree/Disagree
-
Agree
I agree with this article because it was evident in the data that was gathered that there were some disparities between migrants/immigrants and U.S born Mexicans, and I think the arguments the author gave for potential reasons these disparities exist makes sense and the reasoning for migration makes sense as well
The authors purpose in this article was to discuss "salmon bias" and how it can potentially explain health discrepancies in the LatinX and Mexican community in the U.S. This article also was used as a discussion on the lack of data exploring this topic and how the data can't be used to generalize or explain an entire group

Author's purpose
Agree/Disagree
Agree
I agree with the article because it does highlights how polices and sociological factors politicize the existence and rights of marginalized people and how more often than not they are placed into positions where if they want equality they must take political action to achieve it
-
In the article the author discusses how in the U.S the health and health outcomes of marginalized people, is often politicized or affected by political actions. In the U.S the health outcomes of LatinX people is often worse than that of other groups because their identity is politicized and they are the victims of policy that promotes harmful ideology about them. The author's other point is that for many marginalized groups like LatinX people the only way for them to achieve health equity is through political action
