3.7 RENEWABLE ENERGY - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Photovoltaic cells are linked to form photovoltaic modules, and modules are assembled together to make arrays(panels).
        
        An array is simply a large number of single cells connected by wires to produce higher voltages and increased power. For residential homes PV panels are placed on roof facing Southeast and Southwest and inclined ar 20-60 degrees from the horizontal.
    - - PV generated direct current (DC), and it needs to be converted to AC current to be used in homes. Inverters are suitable for simple loads, such as lights and water pumps.
    - - You store electricity in a rechargeable battery for later use in the house.
    - - You can supply the utility with your produced electricity via connection to grid. The system should not be considered in the building science design of the house.
  - - - 2/3 of domestic hot water from 2 collectors can be obtained for a typical family
    - - Active solar space heating uses the same collectors as solar domestic hot water systems.
    - - They do exist, but have not performed up to the expectations when used for whole house heating, and are not common.
- - - - Rotor blades and shaft.
        
        Blades are fibreglass. The blade capture the kinetic energy of the wind.
      - Generator/alternator
        
        Electricity is produced from the rotation of the turbine motor either as DC or AC power.
      - Tail Vane
        
        Aligns the turbine blades into the wind.
      - Tower
        
        Holds the turbine in the path of the wind, and must be designed to survive extreme winds and icing.
