Innovative Differentiation Strategies
Students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills -
Intermediate Orchestra
Specialized Musical Arrangements
- For intermediate students, less challenging and complete arrangements will be given to them. In other words, students will do the main accompaniment to the lead melody. Also, their specific arrangements will require that they work on advancing their techniques in playing.
Monitoring
- Students will work with instructor individually measure by measure for arrangement. Hands on performance technique will be observed by instructor as well as with teaching assistants. Students will keep a practice log, video record their own practices for homework and then also class, rehearsal and concert performances. Also, students will receive feedback from instructors and their peers on a daily basis.
Audition
- Students perform so performance level can be assessed and level and "position"can be determined
Assessment and Rearrangement
- If students are performing well we will work on advancing techniques and increase their difficulty of the arrangement. If students are struggling, we will work with them one on one with student peer as well as teaching assistant. In addition, students will also attend after school program.
Pre audition
- Interview is conducted to screen student's experience or level with instruments
Students who answered most, including the most difficult, of the pre-assessment questions correctly -
Advanced Orchestra

Specialized Musical Arrangements
- For top level students, most challenging and complete arrangements will be given to them. In addition, they will be musical instrument group leads and in charge of other musicians. In other words, they play the main melody with solos or more involved measures and rhythms.

Assessment and Rearrangement
- If students are doing well and need more of a challenge, they will be assigned to a lower orchestra member as a one on one peer buddy. In addition, they will be given a much complex arrangement to perform in the orchestra.
Students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic, of which 3 are struggling with language and are at different reading levels and 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the the topic and need to be tested further for special needs
