Grade 5: Ecosystems
In this Unit students will learn about the Food Web. As a Pre-Assessment student will try to label a
food web
. This will tests student's knowledge of Energy, Producers, Consumers, and Predators.
All 22 Students will complete the assessment in the link above, then do a carousel brainstorm with their group about examples for each group. The teacher will observe students as they complete the tasks to get a better sense of understanding of the topic.
Results
The student was able to correctly label the food web diagram.
The student was also able to demonstrate clear knowledge of each group by listing numerous examples with their group.

Group 1: Enrichment

Knowledge Building Activities
:pencil2:Since this group has demonstrated they have a firm grasp of Food Webs. The teacher will look to push their understanding across many different environments and species.
:pencil2:This group will be given pictures with names of many different Producers, Consumers, Predators and sources of Energy relative to a climate.

Kiddle
, the students will research these pictures and create five different food web posters based on different climates.
:check: Each student will choose one climate for their poster.

Gifted Student Differentiation:
They will be asked to use Kiddle to research more species that live in their climate and add them to their poster.
:warning:The teacher will check the posters to make sure students are correctly using and understanding the content.
The student was able label 3-5 parts of the diagram correctly.
The student was able to give some examples for some of the groups but struggled with others or showing a clear understanding of the functions of each group.

Group 2: Practice Concepts

:pencil2:This group has demonstrated they have knowledge of Food Webs but some support is needed with some concepts to achieve mastery of the topic.
:pencil2:This group will be given a set of definitions for each group of the food web and match the groups to the definitions.
After completing the matching task in their small groups. They will create and draw their own food web with a set of animals, plants, and sources of energy given to them. They will use their example from the first task to assist them while labeling and creating the food web.
:warning:The teacher will check the posters to make sure students are correctly using and understanding the content.
The student was only able to label 0-3 parts of the food web diagram.
They were only able to give a few to zero examples of each group when working with their group.
They struggled to show any understanding of each of group.

Group 3: Detailed Instruction

Instructional Activities
:pencil2:This group has shown they have very little knowledge of Food Webs and may be struggling to understand the knowledge.
:pencil2:The Teacher will work with this group to help support and teach them the knowledge they need to understand Food Webs.
They will sit with the teacher while reviewing the groups of the food web and functions of each group. The teacher will use cut out pictures and definitions to demonstrate and explain the food web.
The students will then be tasked with recreating the food web shown by the teacher. The students in this group will then take turns using different pictures to create different food webs and check their peers for accuracy. :
Students with Language difficulty.
The language for this task will be graded down in comparison to the other groups. The language will also feature pictures to help support difficult words.
Low Comprehension Students
The amount of pictures for this group will be lower in comparison to the other groups. This will be done to help make the content easy to understand. The focus will be on helping these students understand the aspects of the food web.
