Dracula Chapter plots
Chapter 27
- Van Helsing's memorandum to Seward states that they have both reached the Borgo Pass. Van Helsing later finds that he can no longer hypnotise Mina, which makes him fearful for her, therefore he encircled her in a ring of holy Communion wafers.
- The three female vampires (same as the one Harker met) appear and try to tempt both Mina and Van Helsing.
- Van Helsing decides to leave Mina asleep in the circle, he then walked to the castle and discovers the tomb of the female vampires. He then perform the rituals which were able to destroy them. He also discovered the coffin for Dracula which he cleanse, he also sealed the castle doors therefore denying Dracula entry to the castle.
- Later, Mina and Van Helsing travel to the east so they can meet with the others, now there is heavy snowfall and the howling of wolves. The pair spot the other vampire hunters closing on a cart ahead of them which has the last box of earth in.
- The men managed to intercept the cart, the Gypsies on board stand to defend the cart, Harker and Morris were able to make thier way onto the cart, doing so Morris was wounded. Harker throws the box on the ground and both him and Morris were able to pry open the box.
- The pair of Morris and Harker were able to kill Dracula by: slashing his throat and stabbing his heart. Dracula dies and crumbles to dust.
Morris is now fataly wounded, before his death, he points out the scar on Mina's forehead had disappeared.
In a flashfoward of 7 years later, Mina and Harker has a son named after Quincey Morris, we are also informed that Seward and Arthur are happily married.
Chapter 21
- The men asks him about his condition and any information he could give them. He admits that Dracula has visited him many times promising wishes.
- Later, Mina enters, Renfield notices that she is pale, he becomes angry as he said that Dracula has been absorbing her life force.
- Renfield later had a fight with Dracula, he was no match for him and he was flung to the floor.
- The four men went up to the room of Harker and Mina upstairs, but it was locked therefore they broke down the door to see: Harker unconscious and Dracula lurking above Mina.
- Van Helsing springs into action and uses the communion wafer to make Dracula retreat, there was only a thin vapour of him left. Morris chases it and sees a bat flying away from Carfax.
- The men discovered that Dracula had broken into the study and destroyed their journals and diaries, but they had duplicates kept safely elsewhere.
- Both Harker and Mina regain consciousness, Mina explain how Dracula appeared and threatened to kill her. She also explain how he drank from her blood and how she was forced to drink his blood.
Chapter 26
- Seward informs the reader that Mina's connection though still helpful is very limited, Mina hears the waves, which tells them that Dracula is close to water, therefore they can still catch him.
- They later meet the captain of the Czarina Catherine, he told them the boxes have been unloaded and passed to a trader named Petrof Skinsky. The men later found him dead in a graveyard.
- Mina investigates the possible routes that the Count could have taken, therefore the men decided to split up to increase their chances of finding him.
- This chapter demonstrates the progress of technology as: Mina and Van Helsing take a train, Seward and Morris on horseback, whilst Arthur and Harker use a steamboat.
- The pair of Harker and Arthur are informed of a bot ahead of them, which they deemed to be that of Dracula. Meanwhile, Mina and Van Helsing had to take a horse carriage the rest of the way to the castle.
Chapter 20
- Harker discovers where remaining boxes of earth were, however 9 of them were in a busy populated area, which worries the vampire hunters.
- Seward continues to keep record of Renfield's behaviour, who has no interest in animals but now in the souls of others.
- Seward interviews Renfield on what he wants to do with the 'souls he wishes to collect' he becomes agitated at the inquiry.
- The next evening, there was a scream from Renfield's cell, they find him covered in blood.
Chapter 22
- In Harker's journal, we find out that Dracula went to visit Renfield to break his neck therefore killing him.
- Harker and the other vampire hunters go to Carfax to place a Communion wafer in each of the boxes containing earth, therefore making it unfit for vampires to sleep in.
- Van Helsing later seals Mina's room with wafers, he also placed one on her forehead which burned her skin and left a scar.
- The vampire hunters head to the count's estate in Piccadilly.
Chapter 23
- The men were able to get the keys to Dracula's other houses. Arthur and Morris split up with Harker and Van Helsing to sterilise the remaining boxes, but one is missing.
- Mina informs the men through a telegram that Dracula has left Carfax, which makes the men think that he would be coming to them, therefore they prepared an ambush.
- Though they had the advantage, because it is daytime, Dracula was able to escape by leaping out of a window.
- later, when the men returned to Mina, van Helsing goes to hypnotise Mina in order to find out where Dracula is going, through their connection. Mina reports that she hears the sound of the sea, this made them think that Dracula was fleeing England.
Chapter 25
- Before they all departed for their journey, Mina insist that the men should destroy her if she was to transform into a vampire, the men agree.
- October 12th, they are on the train to Varna, Van Helsing made arrangement to board the Czarina Catherine immediately after they arrive.
- Througout their journey, Mina begins to grow weaker. After waiting at Varna for Dracula, the group receive information that Dracula's ship had docked into the port of Galatsz.
- The men prepare to board a train to Galatz, Van Helsing suggests that it may have been Mina's telepathic connection that allowed Dracula to know of their ambush. Van Helsing makes sure to reassure the group that they will find Dracula.
Chapter 19
1.The vampire hunters journey to Carfax, armed with holy objects, though they did not find Dracula, they found 29/50 boxes.
- Rats began to fill the room, but were chased away by dogs, summoned by a whistle. Van Helsing was particular;y happy, later when they returned to the asylum, he decides to interview Renfield, who offered no information.
- Mina starts noting down her anxiety and fear of being stalked or watched. One night she sees a white streak of mist coming towards her. Though she sleeps well, she wakes up to see a face above her, which she assumed was from a dream.
Chapter 24
- The vampire hunters discover that Dracula did board a boat Czarina Catherine (referencing the promiscuity that could befall Mina).
- After their discovery, Van Helsing gives a heartwarming and motivational speech about their cause to defeat Dracula.
- Whilst the men are making their plan on how to chase and defeat Dracula, Mina urges to join them, though Van Helsing initially disagreed, he relents as Mina comments on the usefulness of her telepathic ability with Dracula. Harker goes to make travel arrangements.
