blood pressure
=the pressure put on the walls of your arteries by the blood.
blood pressure is normally measured at the brachial artery and expressed in mmHg and two numbers
diastole
=the number from the lowered pressure when the ventricles relax and fill up with new blood.
systole
=the number from the pressure when the ventricles contract and blood is pushed away.
your blood pressure changes to meet your body's needs. when your active angry or scared, your blood pressure goes up
atherosclerosis
= when fatty materials are deposite on the inside walls of the arteries. the fat comes from foods.
can cause
stroke
when plague is built up in an artery it loses its elasticity and is no longer able to expand with the rhythm of the heartbeat and can burst causing a stroke
heart attack
when the fatty builts up in the coronary arteries it can block the coronary circulation causing part of your cardiac tissue to stop functioning
plague
form when the fatty deposits inside an artery become stiff and hard.
hypertension
= when the blood pressure remains high for a too long time. the heart must work harder and places an extra strain on it

a stroke (accurs when one of the arteries that transport blood to the brain is blocked or ruptured)
