Characteristics
Does not need an auxiliary verb in negative sentences or interrogatives
It is used to talk about actions completed at a time in the past
The words "was" and "were" can have 4 meanings
"Was" can mean "estuvo" or "estaba".
"Were" can mean "eran" or "fueron".
Interrogative structure
To ask a question you have to place "was / were" at the beginning of the sentence
Were they doctors?
Were you at the school?
Was I a baby?
Was he angry?
Were we young?
Was she a student?
Was it closed?
"Negative structure"
In negative sentences, add the adverb "not" and put it after the word "was / were".
You were not at the school
She was not a student
it was not a closed
He was not angry
thet were not a doctors
I was not a baby
we were not young
Affirmative structure
For the first and third person singular the word "was" is used; for the rest, "were" is used.
“She was a student”.
“They were doctors”.
"I was a baby"
"He was angry"
"You were at the school"
"It was closed"
"We were young"
