Totalitarianism

It's characterized by strong central rule that attempts to control and direct all aspects of individual life through coercion.
Most totalitarian governments were created by a charismatic leader that achieved overwhelming popular support.
It supplants all political institutions with new ones and sweeps away all legal, political and social traditions.
The most famous examples of modern totalitarian regimes are the regimes of the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany.
Monarchy

Most allow only male succession, usually from father to son.

In te 21st century, this political system is rarely seen. Examples of traditinal monarchies are limited to the arab world. The monarchy of morocco is a good example.
Democracy
Literally, the rule of the people, it derives from the greek demokratia. Democracy is a system of government in which laws, policies, leadership, and major undertakings of a state or other polity are directly or indirectly decided by the “people". It originally denoted the political system then existing in some greek city-states, notably Athens. The rule of the "people" actually referred to a minority then.
Beginning in the 18th century, direct democracy gave way to representative democracy. This change would require a set of political institutions radically different from those of all earlier democracies.
