Chapter 1 Whats different since 2008
The length of the average job-hunt has increased. Job seekers use to find jobs within 5 weeks and after 2008 17-30% of all unemployed people are searing for over a year. Have contemporary job hunter skills can be life or death!
The length of time the average job lasts has decreased. Full Time jobs are are getting harder to find and there's a large amount of people with part time jobs wanting full time jobs. 40 percent of the US workforces wile part timers, temp workers, free agents and free lancers. This decrease has to do with employers wanting to keep cost down.
The way jobs are being done is changing dramatically. Workers are being payed less.
with times and the way we are living jobs are being reimagined.
its predicted that 5-19% at the worst will be replaced by robotics, technology and computer programs. this could also create new jobs.
jobs will be a partnership between machines and humans.
know who you are and what you like will enable you to do your best work.
job hunting is a survival skill. it is increasingly becoming a repetitive activity in our lives.
Employers hunt differently when times are good and when they are bad. When times are good employers have difficulty filling their vacancies and then cater to job hunters preferences. When they economy turns and employers find it easy to fill vacancies employers change tactics and stop reading resumes. Employers change their tactics and we have yet to catch on.
Job hunting is increasing moving more and more online
job boards (where employers post vacancies they want filed)
mega job boards and search engines
Niche job-boards
company job-boards
job- boards for particular ages.
social media and other sites have become more popular as well. Things like Facebook, email, LinkedIn, Twitter, ect.
job hunters and employers speak two different languages.
you want the job market to be a game
you want the employer to be taking lot of initiative when finding you
past performance is weighted and employers look at whole behavior even social media
you want employer to hunt you like you them.

you will end up with the job that you want and not just any job and in return you will put more time, energy and determination in the job search knowing what you want exactly.

help with describing in detail exactly what you are looking for
it will help you stand out against equally as qualifies and experience candidates because you will know what sets you apart and makes you unique
it will bring mindfulness improving decision making
you will know what direction you want to go in your life and career
you learn to describe yourself in at least 6 different ways allowing you to approach multiple job markets
unemployment is an interruption but interruptions are opportunities to find what you really want in life
how to self inventory
A number of worksheets will be needed when working on your one sheet of paper summarizing yourself
graphic or picture helps when making decisions about your life maybe a graphic you wish
One sheet of paper- shrink every significant thing you know about yourself into one sheet of paper.
prioritizing instrument or grid. lists of all thing you want in your job or list of your skills.

the job hunt has changed- contradicting answers lies between essence and surface behavior or form. behavior is determined by the current technology. essence has never really changed (human activity) "do I like you". if you focus on essence rather than form the job hunt remains pretty much constant.

you and skills: describe who you are in terms of skills and what transferable skills you have
you and work place: describe who you are and what working conditions you want or favorite workplace
You and people: describe who you are or who you prefer to work with

5 steps job hunters or career changers found helpful
Find out what carrels or work your flower points to
look at skills, jot down suggestions, take out what you found valuable, what has your primary preferences, you should end up with about 40 suggestions
learn as much as you can about a place before formally approaching them
ask everyone you know, ask people at the organizations, look at what's in the internet, whats in print,. explore through temporary agencies and volunteering.
try on jobs before you decide
chat with people who are already doing it ask "How did you get into this work", "What do you least and most like about this job."
find names of particular places that interest you
jot down what's good or bad about a specific place.you may have to many names to investigate and will want to cut the territory down to a manageable number
find out what kinds of organizations have such jobs
Find places one might get hired so you can cast the widest net possible also look into hiring options.
Have a bridge person that you know and the company you want to work for knows to help score a interview!
