Maritime Management
Nautical Nomenclature
Structure
Frames: hull ribs that, starting from the keel, define the shape of the sides.
-
-
-
Stern: continuation, very robust, of the keel at the bow.
-
Keel: is the vertical column of a boat. It is a sturdy piece located in the lower center of the boat.
-
Hull: the body of a vessel, excluding the moving parts.
Mooring elements
Noray: piece, generally of iron, affirmed in the docks to hold the moorings.
Deadheads: solid, heavy pieces resting on the bottom to which buoys or beacons are attached.
Gripper: a piece of rope used to hold a rope, chain or cable that is under tension for manipulation.
Buoys: floating elements moored to the dead, used for mooring boats or signaling.
Gaza: ring or oval that is made from a rope that serves to make the rope firm or to attach something to it.
Defensas: accesorios para proteger al atacar las embarcaciones del roce o golpes con otras embarcaciones o con el muelle.
-
Bichero: pole ending in a hook that serves as an aid in the docking or undocking of pleasure boats. :
-
Polyester: high resistance, flexibility, non-floating, unalterable to the action of the environment.
-
-
Structure of the ropes: several twisted fibers form the phyllastic, several phyllastics make up the strand and several strands make up the rope.
Propylene: very resistant to abrasion, rough to the touch, float and are inexpensive.
-
-
Partes de la embarcación
Propeller: The part of the boat that provides propulsion, usually driven by a combustion engine.
Stern: This is the rear area of the boat, where the transom is located.
Port side: This is the area that, when viewed from the stern, is the left side, the starboard side is the right side.
-
-
-
-
-
Bow: It is the front part of the boat, the part that breaks the water during navigation.
Dimensions
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
Arrufo: when the average draft is less than the draft in the middle, i.e., a U-shaped draft in the case.
-
Broken: when the average draft is greater than the draft in the middle, i.e. an inverted U-shaped hull.
-
Beacons
-
Special brands
It is not primarily intended to aid navigation, but to indicate a particular area or configuration whose exact nature is indicated on the chart or other nautical document.
**Daytime sidemark, region
In a conventional beaconing direction, the side markers in region A use the colors red and green, day and night, to indicate the port and starboard sides respectively of a channel. In region B the arrangement of colors is reversed, red to starboard and green to port.
Cardinal marks
A cardinal mark indicates that the deepest waters in the area in which it is placed are those of the quadrant that gives the mark its name.
Security
Safety equipment
These teams are used to assist, to be prudent, courageous, prompt, to remove the injured person from danger, and to observe the evolution of the ailment.
Communications
-
-
-
-
-
-
Telephony: telecommunication system for the transmission of speech or, in some cases, other sounds.
-
-
-
Radio waves: electromagnetic waves, whose frequency is less than 3,000 Ghzs and which propagate in space.
Communications: only those that are necessary shall be plowed, trying to keep them as short as possible.
-
Termination of a transmission: the end of the work between two stations will be indicated by the word "finished".
Telecommunications: any transmission or reception of signs, signals, writings, images, sound or information of any nature.
Importance of not saturating the channels with useless transmissions: all stations are prohibited from useless transmissions.

Mooring elements
General aspects
-
Once the hazard is over, this fact must be communicated.
When there is doubt about the understanding of the language, the phonetic alphabet will be used.
-
They are made to the ether, that is, to whoever hears us.
-
Propulsion
Motor characteristics
Installation of an inboard outboard motor: These motors are installed on board next to the transom and their propeller tails pass through the transom by means of a watertight joint.
-
Installation of an outboard motor: It is installed on the transom. The motor has a movement around a vertical axis that allows the whole motor to be rotated by means of a lever.
Control instruments
Check after start-up:
-
-
-
Check that the exhaust smoke is: with cold engine, white smoke, with hot engine.
-
-
Maneuvering commands
Start key in ON position, check if the oil warning lights come on.
-
-
-
Once started, turn the key to the ON position.
Concept.
-
Vessels of lesser length: at 7m should exhibit a white light all around the horizon and if possible also those on the side.
Hovercraft: when operating in the hovering condition, display in addition a yellow flashing light all around the horizon.
Prevention when refueling propulsion vessels: stop the engine, do not smoke on deck or on the jetty, avoid spills that could pollute the waters.
In general: One masthead light at the bow. A second masthead light, apopa and higher than the one at the bow. Sidelights. A range light.

Land references
Marks are fixed points on land that serve as reference points for the navigator during navigation. They are usually located in strategic places along the coast, which helps to identify them.
Planning an outing
Before an outing, we must check the fundamental elements on board.
-
Low visibility
Avoid maritime traffic: in situations of low visibility, avoid navigating in dark areas, such as canals, headland crossings, busy routes.
keep watch over the entire horizon; use of the safety harness on deck: avoid falling asleep; be clear about the maneuver; be extremely precise in navigation; use channel 16 if it is considered that we have not been seen in a situation of danger of collision.
Radar reflector: it is an instrument that facilitates the visualization of the vessel on the radar of other vessels.
