Transcription & Translation
DNA- a long molecule that is responsible for carrying out genetic code from one generation to the next
Nucleotides- make up DNA , nucleotides are made of 3 components
Double stranded - DNA is double stranded
Genes- Basic units of hereditary that make up DNA
Hydrogen bonds- Holds the two strands of DNA together
RNA- Also made of nucleotides, RNA'S main function is to create proteins. there are however key differences between the components of RNA and DNA
Single stranded - RNA is usually single stranded
Nucleotides- RNA is also made up of nucleotides but the components of the molecule are different
Amino acids- organic compounds that come together to make proteins
deoxyribose- one of the three main components that make up nucleotides
Anti Codon- Found in tRNA, Anticodons are a sequence of 3 nucleotides forming genetic code in transfer RNA
Codon-a sequence of three nucleotides which together form a unit of genetic code in a DNA or RNA molecule
.
mRNA - serve as “messengers” from DNA to the rest of the cell
rRNA- make up ribosome
s
tRNA-transfers amino acids to the ribosomes as they make proteins
Ribosomes- Found in cell, ribosomes help with producing proteins. consist of RNA
Mutation- alteration in the nucleotide sequence
Ribose-a type of simple sugar, or carbohydrate, that our bodies make.
Transcription- DNA is copied into RNA
Translation - the process of translating messenger DNA into RNA for genetic code
