Review of Related Literature - Coggle Diagram
Review of Related Literature
It involves a process of identifying, locating, organizing, and analyzing information about a research topic.
It is ESSENTIAL
As it prevents duplication of studies and helps avoid problems that others have encountered
It provides valuable information about how to measure the research variables involved and what research designs will be most useful.
to have a thorough literature review before the implementation of the study
as it reflects the depth of discussion, analysis, and interpretation of the findings
Functions in the research process
affords confidence and authority to the researchers since reviewing the literature can provide them all possible constructs and perspectives of the study
gives information about the methods used in similar studies
What are these methods?
characteristics of the sample
the sampling technique or the process of selecting the research participant
the variables considered
the kinds of data gathered
the type of analysis and interpretation done on the collected data
presents gaps in the field of study
GAPS may either be;
areas in the body of knowledge that are not explored yet
parts where research studies yielded inconclusive results
enumerate findings from previous studies that may support those of the present study
provides information about past research studies related to intended investigation, preventing the duplication of research undertakings
provides ideas on how implications may be drawn out of the analysis and interpretation of data
Types of Sources
Primary sources
provide first hand information about experts' and other researchers' PUBLICATIONS
contain findings that are directly communicated to the readers and interested parties
e.g. academic and journals published by universities and learned organizations
Secondary sources
written by authors that describe another researcher's works
it may contain only summaries or interpretations of the research reports rather than a complete description of them
include: textbooks, single-authored books, and books edited by different authors
General References
first accessed by researchers to give them information about other sources
research articles
professional journals
books
monographs
conference proceedings
similar documents
Tertiary sources
these are books and articles based on secondary sources
synthesize and explains the work of others :pencil2:
