7 key concepts
Change
Changes - Changes occur very rapidly and are easy to observe, while others take place over millions of years and are almost undetectable for us
Space - key concept of space when investigating the way that things are arranged on the earth’s surface.
Sustainability - the concept of sustainability relates to the ongoing capacity of the Earth to maintain all life.
Interconnection
Interconnection - Geographers use this concept of interconnection to better understand the links between places and people, and how these interconnections affect the environment and the way we live.
-
Environment - in geographical terms, the key concept of environment means the living and non-living components and elements that make up an area, and the ways they are organised into a system

grid references
4 figure grid reference
-
Four-figure grid references are used to identify and locate particular squares on a map. To create four-figure grid references you use the grid lines on a map
The vertical lines on the grid are called EASTINGS and they increase in value as you move EASTwards.
The horizontal lines on the grid are called NORTHINGS and they increase in value as you move NORTHwards.
In order to locate a particular square, find the bottom left-hand corner and write down the numbers of the lines which pass through the corner
