In a word there can only be one stress.
There can only be stress on vowels not consonants.
When there are two syllables in nouns and adjectives the stress is usually on the first syllable.
Verbs and prepositions with two syllables the stress is on the second syllable.
The syllabled words with the suffixes "-er" or "-ly" usually have stress on the first syllable.
The syllabled words with the suffixes "-ic", "-sion", or "-tion" the stress is on the second to last syllable.
The syllabled words with the suffixes “-cy”, “-ty”, “-phy”, “-gy”, and all the stress is on the third to last syllable counting backward.
Compound nouns the stress is on the first noun.
Compound adjectives and verbs the stress is on the second word.
