University - Harper attended the all-female Huntingdon College in Montgomery. She was a part of the Literary Honours Society and Glee Club. She transferred to the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. Harper contributed to the school newspaper and wrote in the Rammer Jammer magazine. Harper eventually became the publication's editor.
Graduate School - Harper attend the University of Alabama's Law school but dropped out after a semester expressing to follow her dream of becoming a writer.
Career:
Books: "To Kill a Mockingbird" published in 1960. And "Go Set a Watchman" published in 2015. Harper also worked with Truman to help publish "In Cold Blood" in 1966.
Work: Harper moved to New York to start her writing career. Unable to find work as a writer, she worked for Eastern Airlines and for the British Overseas Air Corp. Eventually, with the help of her close friends, Martin and Joy Brown Harper found work at J.B. Lippincott Company. Where she published her first book "To Kill a Mockingbird"

November 5, 2007 - Harper was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom from George W. Bush.

1963 - The film adaptation "To Kill a Mockingbird" won three Academy Awards. Including, Gregory Peck (Atticus Finch) won Best Actor, the design team won an Oscar for Best Art Direction/Set Decoration
February 19, 2016 - Harper Lee passed away in her sleep at the age of 89.
Childhood:
Harper grew up in the rural south of Alabama during the early 1930's. She was the youngest of four children. Through her childhood Harper loved to read.
Important Relationships:
Father - Attorney who served in the state legislature, and owned a part of the local newspaper.
Truman Capote - One of Lee's childhood friends, and next door neighbor. He also became a writer in his adulthood.
