Vianne and Rachel know each other for a long time, and their daughter also ends up to become each other best friend. I feel like Rachel is a neutral girl because sometimes she supports Isabelle's ideas and not refuses them. She is Vianne's moral supporter when Antoine isn't home. Rachel gives Vianne advices so that she can live through her days. Vianne also support Rachel when her husband is sent to German. Their friendship is very good

As being Vianne's daughter, Sophie is the one who always stays with Vianne. The little girl is smart and she knows what death is. Sometimes she wants to resist the Germans like her aunt, Isabelle because she acknowledges that Isabelle's action is brave, not stupid or dumb like others said. Therefore, sometimes she has recommended to her mom what Isabelle will do if she faces the same obstacle. This action sometimes encourages Vianne to speak up and resist the Germans for others.

Captain Beck lives in Vianne's house after the Nazis occupy Carniveau. When Isabelle still lived in Le Jardin, he didn't eat with Vianne's family a lot. However when Isabelle lefts, he eats with them more often and often brings food like fish home for Vianne. He has compassion for Vianne and her family. This also makes Vianne's life less deprivation for food or heat like other families. Even though Vianne still acknowledges that Beck is her enemy, so she doesn't want to eat food that he provide, she does opens to talk with Beck more. Beck also helps V to contact Antoine and warns that Rachel will be in danger if not hiding.

Isabelle and Vianne's relationship is not very good. Isabelle's personality is opposite with Vianne's. Isabelle is a rebellious girl. She is also a brave girl with high national pride that she joins the resistance group. Worrying that she may be a trouble for Sophie and Vianne, Isabelle comes back to Paris with her dad. Sometimes, Vianne also wants to act like Isabelle to help others. The consequence for standing out to help one of teachers causes Vianne looses her job

Antoine

Antoine meets Vianne after her mother death. He is both a physical and emotional supporter for his wife. He also takes care for the family's finances. So after he is gone for the war and taken prison, Vianne feels hopeless because she don't know what to do. She needs to be strong now for her daughter and for surviving until Antoine comes back. The missing role of Antoine in the family has taught Vianne more on how to be a real mom and a strong woman because she was too dependent on Antoine before. She and Sophie both wait for Antoine to come back home.
