Compounds of a metal, a non-metal and oxygen
Write the name of the metal. Write the name of the non-metal, but change the end of its name to -ate. The -ate shows that the compound contains oxygen.

Metal or non-metal
Non-metal oxides are acidic while metal oxides are bases. Non -metal oxides are oxides of nitrogen. Metal oxides neutralize acids. Some metal oxides are sodium oxides.
Hydroxides
Compounds made up of a metal, hydrogen, and oxygen, are called hydroxides
Sulfates
A sulfate is made up of three elements-a metal, sulfur, and oxygen. For example Copper sulfate CuSO4

A carbonate is made up of three elements-a metal, carbon, and oxygen. For example is CaCO3
