solids , liqiids and gases
-
-
-
solids
strong forces of attraction between particles which are clossely packed together in a fixed and regular pattern
-
-
-
liquids
weaker attractive forces in solids than in liquids, particles close together in an irregular and unfixed pattern
partiicles can move and slide past eachother which is why liquids adapt to shape of container because theyre able to flow
-
-
gas
weak intermolecular forces, particles in a random movement so there is no defined pattern
particles are far apart and move rapidly in all directions, they collide with eachother and sides of container , this is how pressure is created
no fixed volume cos theres alot of space between the particles, gases can be compressed into smaller volume
low density
