Understanding isn't just something we have, but do/perform
-
We may not have control over curriculum, we have control of how we teach
-
Students interpret what they see, with only partial knowledge
-
-
Research Journals
-
-
-
-
-
-
Composite of our thoughts, gather ideas and artifacts and put them all in one, unique and more than one way to do this
-
-
Useful tools that add to the richness of discovery to a more in-depth approach to a topic of interest.

Authentic Assessment
-
-
Different ways of assessing: self, peers and teacher
-
-
-
As a learner, we have the freedom to make mistakes and should be communicating our thinking visually to help others assess and understand our learning
Work in progress and far from perfect and work will continue growing and still be far from perfect, feedback helps us make positive changes.
-
-
We need to make sure that we aren't just learning for a test, and as teachers that we aren't just teaching for a test.
Allows us as teachers to see where we may need to spend extra time reviewing material so students are able to have a better understanding of what Is being taught.
providing feedback throughout the learning in a warm and demanding way is able to help motivate students to meet the expectations you have set for them

Integrated Unit Planning
-
-
-
-
-
-
Collaboration is key
Hive-learning is more successful and students are not so isolated in their learning but do it together
-
integrating an expressive and creative piece is easy, and a great way to allow kids to show their understanding.

Chapter 8, Integrating Visual Arts
-
-
Project Zero frameworks (MTV, MLV, Studio Habits of Mind, TfU) work together
-
-
-
When you design a project, develop questions to engage students and make sure the assignment follows the goals and throughline

Making Learning Visible
-
-
-
Can memorize the visual (slide or image), taking a mental picture.
-
As teachers we can always tell that our visual learning are paying attention because they are always looking up at the screen and at us.
Visual learners like to draw or map the things they learn our on paper or online. After seeing the visuals they like to create their own image of the information.
Develop a mapping train to determine big ideas behind topics and map out a sequence of lessons, activities, and projects

Creative Growth
"creative growth is about artistic expression, as a form of self empowerment, as a form of aesthetic development, and as a form of saying "this is who I am!'"
-
-
Allowing people to make art how they want to see the world instead of making art of how the world actually is
Really made me think about giving creative liberty to our students and they will be able to figure out for themselves how they can understand that topic
-
Art is an equalizer that transcends language, culture disability, etc.
-
Provide opportunities for students to use artistic expression as a form of "this is who I am in the world"
-
It's not a traditional way of learning. They ask them, "What colors do you like?" and "What do you dream about?"
Drop the stereotype that people with disabilities can't make impactful creations or inventions to society.
-
Art ideas:
What did you dream about?
What are you thinking about?
what makes you happy?
How do you feel?
-
Art is a great platform for people with disabilities to communicate, express themselves, and find a sense of self-empowerment!

We don't have to conform to basic artistic ideals (using paint, markers, etc), we can think outside the box and reuse what already exists in our world!!
-
-
Concept maps can be used for writing assignments. Here students will be abled to jot down thoughts and ideas and then go from there.
Concept Mapping
-
-
-
Helps students see the relationships between different ideas, concepts, readings, etc.
-
-
-
-
A visual way to see your thoughts, opinions, and responses in a creative and unique way that helps to aid your learning
-

Modeling Teaching
-
Explicit instruction
its important to provide clear expectations for students so that they know what to do, they know what is expected of them, and they feel comfortable with the assignment or task
-
-
-
-
-
Helpful to see examples of teaching in real life because then it makes it easier to start to understand those strategies of teaching and figure out what that will look like for ourselves in our future classrooms
Having examples is really helpful for students, modeling expectations through showing them a right way and maybe a not so right way

Cain's Arcade
We as educators should see the world as a child sometimes. Chidren have wild imaginations and it should be incorporated to our teaching or classroom everyday! Cain was determined and motivated because he was doing something that was fun for him.
