Natural Energy Resources

Energy resources are resources that can produce heat, make electricity or move objects depending on what they are used for.

Domestic purpose homes require heat and light.

Transport: Cars, trucks, planes, trains, etc. need energy sources to run.

Industry and business: Factories and businesses need light, heat and power to run their machines, offices etc.

Non renewable energy can be used only once and will run out eventually.

Renewable energy can be used repeatedly and will not run out.

Renewable energy resources: Solar power, wind energy, tidal energy, geothermal energy, biomass energy and hydroelectric power.

Non-renewable energy resources: Oil, gas, coal and peat.

Saudi Arabia is a country in the Middle East and it is the world's second highest producer of oil.

One environmental concern was the oil production in the country having a negative effect on the environment.

The Middle east produced 19.21 million barrels of oil per day. Saudi Arabia was responsible for 10.9 million of these barrels of oil.

One economic concern was the economy of Saudi Arabia is heavily reliant on oil production for stability of its economy.

One social concern was the standard of living and it changed since Saudi Arabia started producing oil.

Acid rain is a consequence of the non-renewable energy sources.

Solar energy is the heat and light from the sun that is harnessed and converted directly into other forms of energy, such as electricity.

Advantages of Solar energy: Renewable, clean, solar panels are inexpensive and technology is cheap to install.

Disadvantages of solar energy: Not possible at night and its also weather dependent.

Wind power is the use of airflow through wind turbines to power generators to create electricity.

Wind farms consist of many individual wind turbines that are connected to an electric grid. These farms can we located onshore or offshore.

Advantages of wind power: Renewable energy, no waste product and can be built almost anywhere.

Disadvantages of Wind power: Noise pollution, can ruin the scenic view of areas and concern for avian life (birds and bats) that might fly into the wind turbines rotors.

There are 272 wind farms in Ireland. Irelands first wind farm was opened in 1992 at Bellacorik, Co.Mayo.

Environmental benefits: Wind energy is a renewable and clean source of energy. Twenty-one per cent of Ireland's electricity demand was met in 2015.

Economic benefits: Wind energy has the potential to create 7,250 jobs for the construction industry as more wind farms are planned for Ireland. There are approximately 1,500 people employed in wind energy companies in Ireland.

Geothermal energy is a sustainable system of extracting renewable heat and domestic water.

Environmental benefits of geothermal energy: Geothermal systems are one of the worlds most environmentally friendly ways to heat or cool a home. It is a clean and renewable energy source.

Economic benefits: Jobs would be created in areas such as research, construction, operation and maintenance.
