is a set of elements in a body made to resist force effects. It prevents a body from breaking and being deformed.

Force
is anything that can deform or make move/ stop a body.

load
is a force that acts on structures
Fixed loads
don't vary over time
Variable loads
vary over time
Stress
is the internal
tension all bodies experience when forces
are applied to them.
Bending
produced when trying to bend a body (not opposing forces)
Compression
produced when compressing a body (opposing forces)
Traction
produced when stretching a body (opposing forces)
Torsion
produced when trying to twist the body (forces in different directions)
Shearing or cutting
produced when trying to divide a body (not opposing forces, one goes up the others go down)
