COMPUTER NETWORK TYPES, NETWORK DEVICES - Coggle Diagram
COMPUTER NETWORK TYPES
-
LAN
not far away from each other geographically. consists of devices connected to hubs or switches, which is conneted to router and a modem
adv1 - sharing resources
adv2 - ease of communication between users
disadv1 - slower access to external networks, eg internet
disadv2 - easier spread of viruses thorghout whole network
-
bluetooth
sends and receives radio waves, using "spread-spectrum frequency hopping" method
-
eg, sendiing music files from mobile to headset, sending pictures

NETWORK DEVICES
Hubs
Hardware devices that can have a number of devices/computers connected to them. often used to form a LAN by connecting devices together.
Switches
similar but more effeicent than hubs; checks data received and works out its destination address ans sends data to appropriate computers , making it a more secure way of distributing data
Bridge
connect one LAN to another LAN that uses the same protocols. often used to connect different parts of a LAN so they can function as a single LAN. it prevents flooding larger networks with unnessecary traffic
modems
means "modulator demodulator', converts a computers digital signal into analogue signal(and vice versa) for transmission over a telephone line. It allows computers to connect to networks over long distances using telephone networks
Routers
enables data packets to be routed between different networks (eg, connecting a LAN to a WAN). It typically has an internet cable plugged to it + several cables connecting to computers/other devices on the LAN
