Its maritime hegemony allowed it to extend its area of influence to other areas
It occupied almost all of East Africa
Gaigned control of strategic locations
Its colonial expansion acelerate due to the coronation of Queen Victoria as Empress of India
THE FRENCH EMPIRE
Not as extensive as the British Empire
Included areas in:
Island of Madagascar
South-East Asia
North-west Africa
America
French Guiana
Some islands in the Caribbean
Other countries also had colonies in Africa
Belgium: the Congo
Italy: Libya, Eritrea and part of Somalia
Germany: South-Western Africa, Togo, Cameroon and Tanzania
Portugal: Angola and Mozambique
Spain: north of Morocco, part of the Sahara and Equatorial Guinea
THE UNITED STATES
Extended its influence in Latin America and didn’t allow European countries to colonise there.
In the Pacific, the USA annexed the island of Hawaii and the Philippines
JAPAN
Focused its attention on Kore and Manchuria
Fought against Russia for control of Manchuria
RUSSIA
Defeated by Japan
Abandoned Manchuria and concentrated on Siberia and Central Asia
