Media outlets, regardless of their political standings, always have an agenda to push onto their readers and alter current events by using different tactics, such as mind reading, slant, and unsubstantiated claims, which diminishes the truth of events. (everyone now has their own version of what happens – clashing of povs)
mind reading
ALTERNET (L) : "Conservatives could just as easily have proclaimed that the conservative, family-centric, and God-fearing response to the pandemic should be aggressive measures to save lives even at the price of personal inconvenience, but since the movement is contemptuous of those nodded-at things it did not happen."
the author doesn't really know what is going on in the mind's of the conservatives or how they apply their ideologies to different situations
does the author know that ALL conservatives are against the vaccine? how did the author come to this conclusion?
the protest against the vaccine consisted of anti-vaccine and far right groups – are all conservatives far right?
ALTERNET (L) : "It is a certainty that hoaxes will continue to undermine this nation's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that millions of Americans will throw themselves at efforts to make sure their neighborhoods are disease hotspots."
-
what group of individuals does the author picture with the word "american"? why are they most likely to believe hoaxes?
showing how the author sees the world or rather the US – bring doom because of hoaxes and selfishness
AP : “We don’t want people thinking that the current vaccine is already outdated. That’s absolutely not true,” he said. “There’s still immunity here ... a good level of protection,” but the mutations “do in fact reduce how well our immune response is recognizing the virus.”
would this be considered mind reading? guessing what the public would think about the virus mutation and vaccine?
if it is mind reading... would this be justified? Justified in the sense that they are aware of the uncertainty of the vaccine and why people shouldn't be afraid?
unsubstantiated claims
DAILY WIRE (R) : “Up to half of health care workers in one California county and a Texas hospital say they will not get the shot, 60 percent of nurshing home staff in Ohio are turning down the jab and 40 percent of frontline workers in Los Angeles won’t get it either, polls reveal,” the Daily Mail reported”
the link provided for this statement/quote from the Daily Mail had nothing to do with the topic of the vaccine – the article that was linked was about a China lab leak and the virus
the quote should be held with scrutiny because I don't know if where it came from or the context of it – if it is using slant? is it factually correct?
ALTERNET (L) : "after dozens of far-right extremists showed up to protest the very existence of the vaccination program, shout at those arriving for vaccination, and provide living examples of what this nation will become once conservatives have gotten rid of all the public schools and successfully convinced a majority of Americans that their imaginations are more authoritative than all of history and science combined, because a Facebook post or swollen-headed conservative television host told them so."
where is the evidence of the getting rid of public schools? why does it even appear when the article is about the vaccine?
doesn't provide any examples of these facebook post and "swollen-headed conservative television host" (also considered mudslinging) to back up this statement
slant
DAILY WIRE (R) : "A recent survey by Kaiser Family Foundation found that nearly a third (29%) of frontline health care workers probably or definitely would refuse vaccination"
the source actually states the number of people willing to take the vaccine has risen – from september to december
-
DAILY WIRE (R) : "Said The Los Angeles Time: “At St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Tehama County, Fewer than half of the 700 Hospital workers eligible for the vaccine we're willing to take the shot when it was first offered. At Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, one-in-five frontline nurses and doctors have declined the shot. roughly 20% to 40% LA County frontline workers who were offered the vaccine did the same, according to County Public Health officials.”
the article makes it seems as if all frontline workers don't want to be guinea pigs – experimental connotations
the source of this quote states that the refusal of the vaccine is due to distrust in the government and medical field
