Biography
Anaximenes was born in Miletus and lived from 585 to 528 BC. He was a student of Anaximander, who is also a Greek philosopher from Miletus. Part of the Milesian School.

- He observed the rainbow, and instead of describing it as a goddess, he described it with science -- as the affect of sun rays on compacted air.

- Believes the universe is hemispherical.
- He is the first astronomer to consider the Sun as a huge mass and realize how far away from the Earth it really is.

The Milesian School
The three main philosophers were Thales, Anaximander and Anaximenes. Instead of explaining all events in nature through divine entities, they used a more "scientific" approach. They inherited Babylonian and Egyptian knowledge on mathematics and astronomy.
