MIXTURE SEPARATION METHODS
HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURES
DECANTATION
A separating funnet allows the liquids components of heterogeneous mixtures with different densites to be separated.
LEACHING
This method allows the separation of mixtures of solid components of similarly sized particles. One of the components must be soluble in liquid.
CENTRIFUGING AND DECANTATION
Is a method of separating the commponents of a suspension or a liquid colloid acording to their density.
FILTRATION
In this technique, suspended solid fragments are extracted from a liquid. This only occurs when the solid is larger diameter than the pores of the filter paper.
MAGNETIC SEPARATION
This method allows the components with magnetic properties
SIEVING
Sieving allows mixtures of solids of different sizes to be separated. The mixture is passed through a sleve-a tool with a mesh of given.
SEDIMENTATION AND DECANTATION
Allows the components of a suspension to be seprated
FLOTATION
This method allows mixtures of similarly sizes solids to be separated by density.
HOMOGENEOUS MIXTURES
Physical methods
Vaporitzacion
Is use to separate solutions of solids in a liquid solvent by heating it and then it vaporitzes.
Distillation
Allows liquids with diferent boiling point to be separated
Chromatography
In this method the components get separed by traveling through a surface
