Biomechanics
Chapter 12
Definitions
Kinetics = Forces
Kinematics = Movement w/o force
Force = any influence that causes change
Osteoikinematics / Arthrokinematics
Moving bones / Motion at joint articulation
Inertia = Resistance
Mass = The amount of matter in an object
Statics / Dynamics = Nonmoving / Moving
Torque = force of rotation
Vector / Friction / Velocity & Momentum
Direction / Resistance / Rate of change / Mass x velocity
Gravity = force toward center of earth
Laws
First - Law of Inertia
an object at rest stays at rest
Second - Law of Acceleration
Acceleration is related to force
Second Law of Acceleration
Direction of acceleration is direction of force
Third - Law of Action - Reaction
equal and opposite reaction
Force
Linear
i.e. traction of a neck
Parallel - force couple
Concurrent - two or more force action together
i.e. all 3 fibers of Gluteus maximus firing together
Torque
Force that involves rotation of
an object about and axis
Friction = force that resists the
relative motion of two surfaces
