Types of Immunity
Passive Immunity: Refers to the use of antibodies produced by another person to protect an individual against infectious disease. This type of immunity can occur naturally or it can be acquired.
Example: Injecting a person with antibodies against a microorganism to which a person has not previously been exposed to.
Active Immunity: Uses antibodies produced by one's own body to protect against infectious disease, and it can occur naturally or be acquired. It occur naturally or acquired. It occurs naturally when a pathogenic microorganism causes disease. Protection against further attack by that microorganism is conferred to the individual if the body recovers from the disease.
Example: When a person is injected with or ingests either altered pathogenic microorganism or products of those microorganisms.
