Crooks
SAYS
"Crooks said sharply, 'You got no right to come in my room. This here's my room. Nobody got any right in here but me.'" (Steinbeck, 105)
-
"'Cause I'm black. They play cards in there, but I can't play because I'm black. They say I stink. Well, I tell you, you all of you stink to me.'" (Steinbeck, 106)
Crooks appears to be jealous of the other guys and he seems to just want a friend but he can't because he is excluded.
ACTIONS
"Crooks avoided the whole subject now." (Steinbeck, 121)
When Crooks avoids the subject it shows his embarrassment because he thought he had authority over Curley's wife.
"Crooks had retired into the terrible protective dignity of the Negro." (Steinbeck, 117)
-
POSSESSION & ENVIRONMENT
"Crooks possessed... a single-barreled shotgun." (Steinbeck, 104)
To me this was interesting to see that he could even own a gun so I think this evidence is important.

THOUGHTS
"Crooks saw the danger as it approached him. He edged back on his bunk to get out of the way." (Steinbeck, 110)
Crooks seems to be on edge of any dangers that are around him and very aware of anything that may pose a threat.
"Crooks had reduced himself to nothing. There was no personality, no ego-nothing to arouse either like or dislike."(Steinbeck, 119)
Crooks came to a realization that he really had no power in this world after trying to get Curley's wife out of his bunk.
EFFECTS ON OTHERS
"His voice grew soft and persuasive." (Steinbeck, 109)
Crooks has a persuasiveness to his voice which he uses to make Lennie think what could happen if George doesn't come back.
LOOKS
"his eyes lay deep in his head, and because of their depth seemed to glitter with intensity." (Steinbeck, 105)
Saying Crooks eyes shine with intensity in a way shows he has been through a lot but his eyes still glitter with hope.
