Democritus
Biography
Biographical information on Democritus is questionable since ancient historians often provide differing reports of his life.
-
People believe that he has lived one hundred years, from 460 to 360 BC.
Democritus' temperament was peaceful, tenacious, and cheerful—hence the label of 'laughing philosopher.' He concluded that the main objective of life should be happiness to everybody.
Democritus was more involved with the world than with money. He simply lived and always found silence to think about the world more profoundly.
Following his dad's death, Democritus used his heritage for a broad and profound education. He followed early Greek philosophers Thales and Pythagoras, who impressed him. He visited Babylon on eastern journeys and maybe India, but this has not been proven. He also visited Ancient Greece before landing in his own homeland again.

World Explanation
Democritus' aim was to refute Parmenides's and Zeno's arguments, which stated that plurality was impossible as the only thing that separates things is "nothing". Therefore, it doesn't exist. According to Democritus; however, believes that there is something that separates things – "the void".
One of Zeno's arguments stated that matter is infinitely divisible. He presented this idea with one of his puzzles called "the racecourse", in which a person can never finish a race. Democritus; however, refuted this argument by saying that atoms – the particles constructing our reality – are actually indivisible.
According to Democritus, atoms can never be created or destroyed. They are somewhat "eternal".
