USA
UK
Undergraduate (3-4 years) - Liberal Arts
Law School in the US (but harder to get in than LLM)
Other
Journalism School in the US
Go to the UK
Outcome:
- Liberal arts education = broader education, freedom to choose what career I want to have. It also allows me to change careers
- Can decide to stay in the US or continue my studies in the UK
- Can still choose to go to Law School in the US, although there is still the issue of citizenship and it is harder to get accepted to prestigious law schools compared to LLM’s
- Can do a GDL and then an LLM (meaning I can work both in the US and UK, and it would be easier for me to stay in the US)
Bachelor's Degree (3 years) in Law
Bachelor's Degree (3 years) in something else - Liberal Arts, English
LLM (1 year)
GDL (1 year)
LLM (1 year - go to the US)
Law and Journalism Dual Degree Program (but hard to get in)
Law school in the US (but harder to get in than LLM)
Journalism school in the US
Journalism Conversion Course
Outcome:
- Freedom to decide what career I want to have when I’m more experienced and have already gone to university = I can be sure of making the right choice + can change careers
- If I decide to study law, the GDL and LLM would allow me to work in both the US and UK
- If I decide to stay in the US, the LLM would also make it easier for me to live there
- It is also easier to get accepted to prestigious universities with an LLM rather than going to law school
- If I am not interested in law, I can still continue my studies in other areas, such as Journalism
LPC (1 year - stay in the UK)
GDL (1 year)
LLM (1 year)
Journalism Conversion Course
Other
Law and Journalism Dual Degree Program in the US (but hard to get in)
Outcome:
- Would allow me to work in the US and UK
- It would be a quick way for me to become a lawyer
- It easier to get admitted to prestigious universities through an LLM than through law school
- It would be easier for me to stay in the US with an LLM than if I had studied only in the US
- HOWEVER, THIS OPTION IS ONLY GOOD IF I AM SURE OF BECOMING A LAWYER = no freedom to change careers
