The information we send is filtered through these layers and are broken up into small bits of data called packets.
The computer that receives these packets moves them through the data stack in reverse, so the message can be reconstructed.

Advantages -- Uses less space on email servers and email is stored locally so you only need internet connection when and receiving emails

IP addresses can be static, meaning they wont change, this is very useful for web addresses.
They can also be dynamic, meaning they can change, for example on a client computer.
