2.2 MATERIALS
1) INSULATION MATERIALS
-
LOOSE-FILL insulation is made fromg glass fiber, mineral wood and cellulose.
-
-
-
-
EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE EPS
-
-
-
SPRAY APPLIED
-
Polyisocyanate (PolyUrethane) RSI/mm (R/in)= 0.96 (5.5) Gases produced by burning this product are VERY TOXIC
-
3) AIR BARRIERS (AB)
Gasket Materials. Most commonly used in sill plate areas. Must be sufficiently durable to withstand construction.
Include open and closed-cell PolyEthylene, Butyl glazing tapes, Neoprene, and other polymer-type gaskets
-
Weatherization Materials
Fastening System made from wood, vinyl, or metal, or simple grooves cut into a window or door frame.
6 MOISTURE BARRIERS
Paint or spray-applied Asphalt emulsions used on interior surface of walls to provide continuous membrane.
PolyEthylene is NOT RECOMMENDED for use as a Moisture Barrier because it traps excess moisture emitted by concrete.
2) VAPOUR BARRIERS (VB)
To qualify for a Vapour Barrier (VB) the material must have a performance of 60ng (nanograms)/ (Pa.s.m(squared)2)
4) Weather Barriers
3 Functions:
-
-
Acts as a wind barrier to restrict air movement into the wall assembly. Building Papers are an example of a weather barrier.
