- - - - BALLOON: When you blow air into a balloon, consider this the Preload-the stretch.
      - Blood returning to the heart directly impacts the stretch of the heart
      - The more fill you have to work with, the more stretch you have, and the greater force you have when you let the air of the balloon out.
    - - Heart Failure- how do we treat? Give diuretics
      - Renal Failure
        
        If you have too much of an increase in preload then you will have an increased SV and ultimately and increased workload on the heart-opposite is true as well.
    - - Treat underlying cause: Blood products, fluids
    - - Volume deficient- Hemorrhage, Dehydration, massive peripheral vasodilation
      - Everyone's different, one patients preload maybe more in order to get a change in SV while another patients maybe less.
  - - - This is what the heart, (the left ventricle) has to pump against to get blood out of the heart and to the rest of the body.
      - The higher the pressure then there is an increased workload on the heart
      - CLOSED DOOR Analogy!!! One person on one side vs. 3 more ppl on the other side
      - This is systolic BP. (i.e. if SBP increased then workload of heart increased, the heart must contract harder to push blood out. At risk for decompensation)
    - - HTN
      - Blood clots
      - Vasoconstriction
    - - Massive peripheral dilation
        Hypotension
        
        Tx: Vasoconstrictors, Vasopressor (Norepi, Vaopressin) These will increased afterload and increase Systolic BP
  - - - How much force are those ventricles uses when it contracts?
    - - Negative inotropes
      - Beta Blockers
      - Ca Channel Blockers (CCB)
    - - Positive Inotropes
      - Cardiac Glycosides (i.e., Digoxin)
      - Epi
