Henry VII
During his reign Erasmus of Rotterdam
brought the Humanism of the Renaissance
to the University of Oxford and Cambridge
Henry VIII
Henry VIII succeeded his father at the age of 18.
He married his brother’s widow, Catherine of Aragon.
He attacked Martin Luther and his anti-Catholic theses, acquiring the title of 'Defender of the faith'.
Henry VIII asked the pope to set aside his first marriage, because his wife Catherine had given him a daughter and not a male heir, but the pope refused. This fact paved the way to the breach with Rome.

In 1533 married a pregnant Anna Boleyn, who gave
birth to a girl, Elizabeth.

Then, the king married Jane Seymour, who gave him a son, Edward but died in childbirth.

Mary I
Mary I, Henry VIII’s daughter by his first wife, declared herself queen and wanted to restore Catholicism in England.

The queen earned the name “Bloody Mary” giving the Protestant Church
about 300 martyrs by burning them at the stake.

When the Wars of the Roses ended in 1485, Henry VII
became the first Tudor king of England.
