BASE jumping is without doubt an extreme sport which uses a parachute to jump from a fixed position.
Parachuting is not as dangerous as one might expect and there are less than one fatality per 150,000 thousand jumps.
It started as gliding down hills on low performance kites, but now pilots can stay airborne for hours, reach altitudes of several thousand feet and reach speeds of over one hundred kilometres per hour.
Paragliding (categorised as ascending parachutes) is closely related to hang gliding but is slower and therefore easier to launch and fly in light wind conditions. Minimum fly speed is 20km per hour and maximum is 65km per hr.
Bungee Jumping is the sport of leaping off tall structures while connected to a thick rubber band. There is not only the trill of the free-fall but the the jumper flies upwards as cord rebounds.
Surfing is the sport of riding waves in an upright or prone position. Surfers catch ocean, river, or man-made waves, and glide across the surface of the water until the wave breaks and loses its energy.
Shark cage diving is underwater diving or snorkeling where the observer remains inside a protective cage designed to prevent sharks from making contact with the divers.
Rafting and whitewater rafting are recreational outdoor activities which use an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other body of water. This is often done on whitewater or different degrees of rough water.

Wakeboarding describes being towed behind a crane or boat whilst standing on a board. Shifting weight and building up pressure to gain great air time and the ability to impress with tricks and spins is the ultimate goal.
