World War 1, in many ways, a new kind of war. 1-battle-of-the-somme

United states joins war

As the war went on, countries looked for help outside Europe for a way of settlement.

While the war continued on, nations looked for help beyond European countries

It involved the use of new technologies.

The U.S. is finally involved in the war

It ushered in the notion of war on a grand and global scale.

It also left behind a landscape of death and destruction such as was never before seen.

Death toll is already high

Everyone devoted all resources to the war

Both sides in World War 1 paid a tremendous price in terms of human life.

None of these overseas alliances that were made did much to help the war come to an end

Rationing: people could only buy smaller portions of things to help the war effort.

About 8.5 million soldiers died as a result of the war.

In response, the Allies formed a plan in 1915 to attack the Ottoman region, the Dardanelles, called the Gallipoli campaign

The war also had a devastating economic impact on Europe.

Another 21 million were wounded.

Everyone used propoganda which persuaded the people.

Because everything was being devoted to war. People were making guns and bullets and clothes not dishwashers. this took over goods trading like steel.

In addition, the war led to the death of countless civilians by way of starvation, disease, and slaughter.

Russia Withdrawals

By seizing the Dardanelles, the Allies planned to reach Constantinople, allowing them access to establish supply lines through Russia

Because of Russia's shortage in food and fuel, this forced Czar to step down

From this, it did not help resolve the problem

Taken together, these figures spelled tragedy -- an entire generation of Europe wiped out.

In many different areas, Germany was under attack. English and french troops seized control and took over

After agreeing to neatralize, Germany sent another attackon the US that brought them even closer to war.

Victory seemed to be at Germany's reach, but their armies had weakened, men were exhausted, and the loss of supplies was inevitably far from what Germany could afford.

The Zimmerman note showed that the US was on its last straw

This note shoed that Germany was against America in the effort of helping mexico regain lost territory to the US. After the submarine incidents if finally pulled America into the war.
