- - - - President Wilson the representative for the US introduced a list that became known as the Fourteen points. The list was made to hopefully insure just and lasting peace.
        
        5 through 13 dealt with suggestions of border changes.
        
        The fourteenth called for the formation of a "general association of nations"
        
        The first 4 points were about ending secret treaties, freedom of seas, free trade, and the reduction of armies and navies
        
        Britain and France showed little interest in the ideas within the fourteen points. They wanted to strip Germany of its war making power.
        
        On June 28, 1919 the Treaty of Versailles was signed resulting in territory loss to Germany, and making them take full responsibility.
        
        More peace treaties followed with the other major powers between 1919-1920. Austria-Hungary was split up into multiple nations and the Ottomans had serious territorial loss. New nations were formed out of the land the Russians surrendered.

        Governments also suppressed antiwar activity, sometimes forcibly. In addition, they censored news about the war.
