Dress code and appropriate clothing is expected in all most every job there is, you will either have to wear a uniform in some jobs, others may give you a dress code such as casual or smart. Many companies will be strict with the dress code as it has a influcence on how the company is percieved as you represent said

When trying to get a job you have to be presentable in your appearance, personal grooming etc. This is to show you are professional, respectful and overall a clean person.
