base is bronze band in circular shape to fit onto head
tiny perforations suggest textile was sewn on
la Tene pattern
curvilinear patterning
two large discs soldered onto band decorated w la tene trumpet curves
eye sockets once contained enamel
discs are concave
each disc has boss w mount for bead
one boss has no bead. rest have red enamel beads
conical horn cut from sheet bronze formed by bending sheet into cone sheet
originally second horn broken and lost
horn decorated with la tene trumpet curves
LOUGHNASHADE TRUMPET

sheet bronze over 6 feet
2 tubes of bronze joined together in the middle by ridged bronze ring
tubes made by bending sheet bronze and edges sealed from inside using a strip of bronze
more than 600 rivets used in the horn
repousse
each quadrant are mirror images of each other
based on greek lotus pattern
found in 18th century buried near shore of lough shade co. armagh
lake where found overlooked by navan fort. one of the oldest celtic structures
