Step 2: Referring for Evaluation and Determining Eligibility
determine how severe their learning problems are
communicate with their parents
determine whether the child meets the state's regulatory guidelines for diagnosis with a disability.

Step 5:Reevaluation
to find out if the child continues to be a "child with a disability," as defined by IDEA
what the child's educational needs are
at least every three years the child must be reevaluated
Step 3: Holding an IEP meeting
tell the parents the purpose, time, and location of the meeting which are mutually agreeable
determine what type of services, interventions, and accommodations the student might need in order to be successful.
write the student's IEP
The IEP goals and benchmarks provide the objectives for the education of the student
