DIGESTION
Assimilation is the movement of digested food molecules into the cells of the body where they are used therefore becoming part of the cell
Digestion is by the definition the break-down of large, insoluble food molecules using mechanical and chemical processes
Before the food serves any use to the animal it has to get out of the alimentary canal. This is called ABSORPTION.
MECHANICAL DIGESTION is the process where the food is broken up by teeth and crunching movements of the alimentary canal.
CHEMICAL DIGESTION is when the pieces of food have been ground up the large molecules present are then broken into small ones
CHEMICAL DIGESTION
Lipase is found in: pancreatic glands. It's functions include: break down lipids (fats and oils). substrate: fats. Products are glycerol & fatty acids.
Amylase is found in: salivary glands, its function: breaks down carbohydrates. substrate: starch, product is Maltose.
Protease is found in: stomach, its function: breaks down proteins into amino acids. Substrate: proteins. Products are: amino acids.
TYPES OF TEETH
INCISORS are sharp and chisel shaped teeth in the front of the mouth. They are used for biting pieces of food.
