Inorganic Ions
Iron Ions

-
-
-
When oxygen is bound, the Fe²⁺ ion temporarily
becomes an Fe³⁺ ion until oxygen is released.
Hydrogen Ions
-
-
pH is calculated based on the concentration of hydrogen ions (H⁺). The more H⁺ ions present, the lower the pH level and the more acidic the environment is.

Phosphate Ions
PO₄³⁻ ions combine with calcium ions to form calcium phosphate which is required for the rigidity of bones.
They are used in the production of nucleic acids, such as DNA and RNA.
They are also used ibn the production of ATP and phospholipids, which are essential in cell membranes.
Sodium Ions
Na⁺ is required for co-transport. Glucose is absorbed in the small intestine with the sodium ions (Na⁺).
