Definition - Business activity that satisfies the needs of individuals in society in the short and long term.
Strategic response - designing production systems that are safe and healthy for employees, allowing social interaction in workplace, creating jobs in low income/deprived areas, e.g. TV manufacturer looks to develop relationship with its suppliers.
Benefits - may unlock new markets, help retain and attract business partners, customer loyalty, or be the source for innovation for new product or service lines. morale and employee engagement may rise, while productivity, risk management and company-community conflict improve.
Cost - problems with inefficient suppliers, can add to business costs
