How Covid-19/Coronavirus affects the lungs - Coggle Diagram

- - - - As the pneumonia from Covid-19 develops, more of the air sacs get filled with fluid leaking from the tiny blood vessels in the lungs. Eventually, shortness of breath occurs - which may lead to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome - which is a form of lung failure. Patients with ARDS cannot breathe on their own and may require ventilator support to help circulate oxygen in the body. ARDS may be fatal whether at home or in the hospital.
    - - Sepsis occurs when an infection reaches and spreads through the bloodstream - causing tissue damage everywhere it can reach. Even when Sepsis is survived, it can cause lasting damage to the lungs and other organs.
    - - In pneumonia, the lungs become filled with fluid and inflamed, which leads to breathing difficulties. For some people, breathing problems may become severe enough for them to require treatment at the hospital with oxygen or even a ventilator.
      - The pneumonia that is caused by Covid-19 is likely to take place in both lungs. The air sacs in the lungs fill with fluid - which limits their ability to take in oxygen - causing shortness of breath, coughs and other symptoms.
      - While most people recover from pneumonia without any lasting lung damage, the pneumonia that originates from COVID-19 may be severe. And even after the disease has passed,the injury to the lungs may result in breathing difficulties that might take months to recover from.
- - - - The virus moves down your respiratory tract - which is the airway that includes your mouth, lungs, throat and lungs. Covid-19 is more likely to go deeper than the common cold because the lower airways have more ACE2 receptors than the rest of the respiratory tract.
        
        For most people, the symptoms end with a cough and a fever. More than 8 in 10 cases are mild. But for some, the infection may get more severe. About 5-8 days after symptoms begin, they may have shortness of breath (dyspnea). Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) begins a few days later.
