Math Pre-Assessment
Students that are doing very well and need to be challenged
Allowing these students the opportunity to help those in the other groups. They can convey their knowledge of the topic at hand and work one on one.
Students who successfully complete the most difficult problems are excused from that night's homework.
Provide activities or tasks that carry the concept to the next level for students to work on quietly while others complete the regular assignment.
Offer optional challenging work to anyone who wants to try it.
Allow students to tailor a project to their interests using computer applications.
Students who are at grade level
Make it hands on using manipulatives.
Use visuals and images.
Allow students to feel comfortable and are given the opportunity to learn new math ideas at their own pace
Have students to brainstorm problem-solving strategies they can use.
Encourage students to work together to suggest different strategies in a respectful way.
Play math games.
Students who need extra help as well as ESL and Special Needs
Create vocabulary banks of common math terms. Using pictures illustrations attached to the words.
Use of manipulatives to make math content comprehensible.
Provide extra time for students to process questions and formulate responses.
Elicit nonverbal responses, like a thumbs up or down.
Design questions and prompts for different proficiency levels.
Use prompts to support student responses.
Use computer games to help them gain competency.
